Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Direct opens an encrypted WebRTC connection straight between your two devices and streams the file across it. There is no server, no upload, and nothing is stored anywhere in between.

Is there a file size limit?

Direct itself has no size limit. On Chrome and Edge, files stream straight to disk, so multi-gigabyte transfers work fine. On Safari, Firefox, and iPhone the file is assembled in memory, so very large files (roughly over 500 MB to 800 MB) may be unreliable — Direct warns you before you accept.

Does it work between iPhone and Android?

Yes. Direct runs in the browser, so it works across iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac, and Linux — any combination, no app installed on either side.

Is the transfer encrypted?

Accepted Answer

Yes. WebRTC connections are always encrypted end to end with DTLS. Only the two connected devices can read the data.

Do I need an account or an app?

Accepted Answer

No account, no sign-up, no app. Both devices open direct.dplooy.com in a browser, one taps Send and the other taps Receive, and you connect the two by scanning a QR code twice.

Why won't my devices connect?

Accepted Answer

Direct has no relay server, so on some restrictive networks — corporate Wi-Fi or certain mobile carriers — a direct connection cannot be established. Putting both devices on the same Wi-Fi network almost always fixes it.
